Fair Play South West is developing as a regional Equality

issues
The focus of Fair Play South West's work is:
- To widen membership to embrace womens organisations
and networks in the South West and to find ways to facilitate the development
of a regional network where the expertise of members organisations can
help to shape and influence development of specialist policies
- To contribute to the establishment of Equalities South West
(ESW) through work on the steering committee, working groups, and the regional
equalities networks project
- To contribute to reference groups, committees and partnerships
where we can usefully bring specialised knowledge and expertise to an understanding
of gender relationships/issues
- (These activities are overseen by the Board and led by our
Chair Jackie Longworth)
Our vision
is economic and social equality for women in the South West within the context
of the wider equalities agenda
Our mission is:
- To influence and inform policy makers
- To understand the concerns and aspirations of women
- To understand the barriers to womens achievement of
their potential
- To use the expertise developed in regard to women to broaden
perspectives and to address policy issues affecting ethnicity and disability
Our objectives 2001 - 2006
- To promote equal pay (particularly by
tackling gender stereotyping, personal, family and social expectations)
- To increase the number of women in the SW in management positions
(particularly by providing advice to employers on how to recruit, retain and
promote women, by promoting managerial styles that encourage diversity)
- To promote work-life balance
- To reduce / eliminate gender stereotyping (particularly as
it impacts on equal pay)
- To work with specialist agencies, both regionally and locally,
to form a network to share good practice and identify emerging issues
Fair Play South West is run and managed by a Board which includes women and
men who hold key positions in the NHS, TUC, GOSW, Regional Assembly, local government,
